Maarten Hulsmans, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Principal Investigator in the Center for Systems Biology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Hulsmans’ research program investigates topics at the interface of immunology and electrophysiology with focus on intercellular communication in the cardiac condition system. His work has been honored with numerous awards including the Research Foundation Flanders Fellowship Award, MGH Tosteson & Fund for Medical Discovery Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, AHA Career Development Award and NORCH Pilot & Feasibility Award. He received his Master’s Degree in Bioscience Engineering and PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the KU Leuven (Belgium). As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Hulsmans trained with Dr. Matthias Nahrendorf at MGH to understand macrophages’ role in the healthy and diseased heart.
